Showing off in York

We were delighted to showcase our bespoke builds at the Dolls House and Miniatures Fair in York, a fantastic opportunity to connect with miniatures enthusiasts.

As we catch our breath, post-show, founder and builder John shares his reflections from a big day of small things.

What were you most looking forward to about the show?

Meeting people and getting feedback, for sure. I spend such a lot of time alone in the workshop building, crafting and tweaking. But there's nothing like real life feedback and interactions. I was excited to see people's reactions to the bespoke builds, see which parts they particularly liked and understand what they look for most.

As this was my first show, I didn't go with any expectations. I just wanted to have some great conversations and meet some of the wonderful community of miniatures lovers.

Were there any exhibitors who particularly caught your eye?

There was a great range of suppliers and crafters, offering loads of different products, from furniture and wallpapers to unique builds and craft supplies.

I particularly liked Michael R Miniatures - I was a big fan of his on Tiny Design Challenge and it was such a pleasure to meet him in person and see his work up close. I also really liked the Gothic look of Petite Properties' range.

What did visitors ask most?

A lot of people actually asked me 'did you build this?' It was lovely to be able to say, 'yes!'

I also got a lot of questions about the lighting, specifically how I'd concealed the wiring. I'm a bit of a stickler for neatness and seamlessness and, taking inspiration from my background in electronics, I do take pride in making the wiring very slick!

What did you most enjoy about the show?

Everything! Honestly, it was a brilliant day for meeting people, chatting about people's passions for crafts and miniatures and getting loads of inspiration to take back to the workshop.

The event had a great vibe with people really buzzing to be there. I'm already looking forward to coming back in November!

Missed us? We'll be back!

Creative Dolls Houses will be back in York at the Dolls House and Miniatures Fair on 19th November 2023
